That everything breaks down eventually, is obvious, but the fact that household appliances often do so simultaneously, is mysterious to say the least. It’s true nonetheless. When the vacuum cleaner stops working, the water cooker start acting funny, to quit altogether after some last gasps. Why do these things happen the same day? Is it in the air? Is there some perfectly logical technical explanation? If there is, I sincerely hope the other appliances aren’t sensitive to it.

Only the good die young?

In the entertainment industry (e.g. film and music) and other subareas of ‘real’life it may be looked upon as an attribute of greatness, but the fact that electronic or mechanical devices die down before their time has come, is absolutely annoying. It always happens, of course, right after the warranty has expired.

It’s not just that you have to spend money to replace them or the trouble you have to go through. What’s really annoying is the meekness with which everybody else seems to approach these technical failures and design flaws. Is somesympathytoomuchtoask?

Die hard -appliances

Fortunately there are exceptions. Appliances that are so trustworthy that you develop a bond with them. Appliances that don’t let you down, like my Nespresso coffee machine. I have no idea how many thousand cups of quality coffee have come out of it, but this machine is my everyday hero. Would other Nespresso machines be just as good as mine?

For this reason alone I consider ordering Nespresso cups a joy, regardless of how expensive these capsules may be. Apparently there are new developments on the Nespresso cup market, even refillable cups. I’m going to try out all of them, but I’m going to remain faithful to my super-solid coffee machine. It’s only logical.

Household appliances often break down too early, but fortunately there are exceptions. This is an ode to a Nespresso coffee machine "Nespressoapparaat" that just keeps working. Even ordering the pricy cups "Nespresso cups kopen" is a joy for the author.
